Summer is almost Gone!
The summer of 2016 was very busy for us at the City of Deming as we launched a revamp Summer Recreation Program for the youth of our community. The program was a success thanks to the efforts of the City Administration, Deming Public Schools Administration, and of course Silas Wilson who has always given so much to the workers and attendees of this program.
Luna County Economic Development in conjunction with Deming MainStreet and the Deming Luna County Chamber of Commerce conducted the 1st Annual Salsa Festival on July 30 & 31, 2016. The event was a huge success as participants were able to showcase their chile cooking skills to the public and a panel of judges. There was entertainment for both children and adults in attendance and planning has already begun for the 2nd Annual Salsa Festival! So Deming you have less than a year to practice and perfect your chile recipes for the next festival.
The 37th Annual Great American Duck Race was another huge success for the Duck Race Committee and the community of Deming. From the Duck Pageant, hot air balloons, Slow Pitch Softball Tournament, Parade, Tortilla Toss, Washer Tournament, vendors, midway, Outhouse Race and Car and Bike Show; the weekend was a non-stop variety of events and an opportunity to spend time with family, and old and new friends. To everyone that worked so hard to make this a success, thank you!
Last but not least, a quick reminder that October 5-9 is the Southwestern New Mexico State Fair. Come out and support the youth and SWNM Fair Association as they showcase their hard work.
