Deming Just Got a Little Greener
Some may not know that prior to entering the ministry I worked in my family’s solid waste disposal business. When I became Mayor, I had a working knowledge of solid waste operations. I am very pleased to mark the opening of the recycling center at the Deming Transfer Station in June as the start of progressive efforts of the community to divert materials for reuse from our normal waste stream. The newly built recycling facility at the transfer station contains a baler that is capable of baling cardboard, plastic, metal cans, and mixed paper.
The public is invited to drop off sorted recycle materials at the recycle center or to use conveniently stationed drop off points around the City. There are three drop off points around the City consisting of two trailers each. One trailer is for cardboard only. The second trailer has bins for metal cans, plastic, and mixed paper.
The drop off points are located at:
Wal-Mart – west side of parking lot by their Service Center entrance
Peppers Grocery Store – east side of parking lot off of Santa Barbara Street
Old Swimming Pool (8th and Spruce) – east side parking lot off of Spruce
In September, the County will be positioning drop off containers at their convenience stations located at the Sunshine and Hatch Highway locations.
I encourage every one to participate in the community’s recycling effort. You will not only help the environment, but also save on future solid waste landfill fees.
