Deming is the County Seat for Luna County with a population of 14,000. The Village of Columbus sits just 20 miles South of Deming with a population of 2,000 and is home to the only 24-hour commercial port of entry.  Approximately 10,000 people live in the unincorporated areas of Luna County.

Luna County is as unique as you would expect with avid rockhounding, robust agriculture, and manufacturing opportunities making the community a true gem.

The Florida ["Florida" comes from the Spanish word "florido," which means "full of flowers."] Mountains - named after the wild poppies that grow rampant in the Spring after a good winter, turning the mountain range yellow- are home to exotic Persian Ibex offered as a gift to the United States in 1970. Between '70 and '74, a total of 42 ibex had been released, and since then the challenging hunt has become one of the most ssought-aftertags in North America. Learn more about the elusive Ibex!

If extreme hunting and hiking are not on your bucket list, there's plenty of other outdoor recreation for you to enjoy. Luna County is home to three state parks: City of Rocks State Park, Rockhound State Park, and Pancho Villa State Park. Picturesque rock formations  dusted with the charm and allure of the Chihuahuan Desert are sure to fascinate all ages. Rockhound State Park is one of few places where visitors can search for quartz crystals, geodes, jasper, perlite, and many other minerals.

If you're looking to do something indoors, Deming is just the place to stop in. With a first class History Museum you can learn how wild the West really was. Deming is also home to the largest winery in the State, Lescombes Family Winery.

Deming, Luna County has a culture rich in history. Enjoy the community at one of two major Annual Events: The Deming Duck races and the Luna County Salsa Festival.
